How to Find a Local Gardener

Maintaining a garden can be a fulfilling and satisfying endeavor. Making a garden truly flourish and pop with color is one of life’s greatest pleasures. However, gardening requires a great degree of work, and you may need some help along the way. You may be considering hiring the services of a local gardener, but may be confused about how to go about doing it.

Prepare to be confused no longer! Here are some helpful tips to get you in contact with the right person for the job!

Visit Your Local Garden Centre:

If your area has a local garden center, it is well worth stopping in to see if they have any recommendations for local gardeners. You could ask the staff, who may be willing to put you in contact with a gardener, or the store may have a dedicated board where gardeners can advertise their services.

Finding a gardener at your local garden center is a very safe bet, as you can be sure that the gardener has the required expertise and knowledge to get the job done.

Ask Those You Know!

If any of your family or friends have gardens that inspire you, or that you find to be particularly appealing, don’t hesitate to ask them if they made use of gardening service. If they did, they should be willing to get you in contact with their gardener. This is one of the absolute best ways to find a gardener!

Check Online!

Multiple websites are available online to help get you into contact with a wonderful gardener. These websites exist to give you a comprehensive list of local gardeners, alongside contact details, their qualifications, and even the experiences of their past clients.

Even making a simple google search for local gardeners will net you the contact details of a number of reputable gardeners close to your location.

And don’t neglect social media! Sites like Facebook allow local tradespeople to advertise their businesses and host their portfolios, contact details, and business bios. These tradespeople can be easily contacted too, with Facebook allowing you to contact them through their own messaging service.

Does your local area have its own dedicated Facebook group? If so, it is very much worth dropping into one of these groups, and asking if anyone in your local area has any recommendations for local gardeners! You’ll be surprised at what you can find!

Check For Local Community Gardens!

Community gardening is experiencing a large rise in popularity within local communities. Community gardens involve multiple people in the community coming together to maintain a shared piece of land, most often accessible by the general public. Not only are these gardens wonderful and inspiring to visit, but you may be able to get some great recommendations for local gardeners, or even get directly into contact with one!

Keep Your Eyes Open!

Take a look around your local area, and see if you can spot any advertisements dotted around for gardening services. You may find billboards, posters, or even bulletins that list garden services. And don’t forget that most gardeners will have a specialized work vehicle which may advertise their services on the side, alongside contact numbers, so make sure to take notice of these when you encounter them while out and about!

Maintain Good Communication:

Once you have narrowed your choices down, you should have the gardeners visit your property, in order for them to assess the work that needs doing, and so that they can give you a quote for the price. Make sure to discuss with the gardener exactly what you need to do, and if you are unhappy with your quoted price, feel free to discuss it with them.

You should also make a point of assessing the gardener's credentials, and qualifications, to make sure they are right for the job. This can usually be done online, via trade websites, or you can ask the gardener to give you a list of their credentials, most gardeners will be more than willing to show their qualifications.

If you decide to hire a gardener, and you are happy with their services, make sure to keep their contact details, and use their services again down the line. This will mean that a relationship is developed, and the quality of the work will significantly increase, as the gardener will know what you want from them and they will be able to cater accordingly!

Developing a relationship with your gardener is also good, as they may be willing to offer you certain discounts for your continued use of their services.

How Much Should You Pay Your Gardener?

The cost of a gardening service can vary quite a bit, depending on the size of the garden, and how much actually needs doing. You can expect to pay a fair bit for the job, but this should not be a discouraging fact, as you are paying for the quality of the service and the highly specialized knowledge of the gardener. If you are unsure about the cost of the service, make sure to bring it up with your gardener, as they will be more than happy to discuss costs.

How Often Should A Gardener Visit?

Again, this depends on the size of the garden, and the complexity of the job. Normally, a gardener should not have to visit more than once a week, to keep the grass trimmed, and do other small jobs.
